Give Your Focal Character a Task
We often define ourselves by what we do. One of the first things you want to know about a person you meet is, “what do you do?”

When you profile your focal character, you likely included profession, hobbies, sports. These interests are all rife with tasks. In every scene, your characters will be more interesting if they’re engaged in doing something, especially if it involves interesting tools. After all, how often do you get to sit around all day thinking?
