A few hours writing at the computer leaves my brain feeling dry, and I crave more tactile creative expression. A canvas beckons from the far end of my studio. At some point I had stopped painting, probably wondering what marks to make next, but now I suddenly have renewed energy and inspiration. I squeeze out fresh paint, pick up a brush, and I am in a magical place of line and shape and color.
In my current work, I’m exploring organic versus geometric shape and the relationships they form. Whether viewing an ocean, a city, railroad tracks, a pile of rope, or an interesting individual, I’m attracted to shapes, lines and colors more emphatically than the whole, thus my paintings command their own universe.
